When the 2008 Orks codex came out, the first thing I realize after going through the unique characters list is that...there isn't any unique Warboss other than Ghazzie in the Ork codex. This kinda baffles me as Orks are very cool fluff wise, and the lack of unique characters compared to the humies/beakies codex is just ain't nice. FYI, let me run down the Unique characters da Orks currently have :
HQ
Warlord Ghazkull Thraka - Unique Warboss in Mega Armour
Mad Dok Grotsnik - Unique Painboss
Old Zogworth - Unique Warphead
Wazdakka Gutsmek - Unique Big Mek on Custom Warbike
Elites
Boss Snikrot - Unique Kommando leader
Boss Zagstruk - Unique Stormboy leader
Heavy Support
Kaptin Badrukk - Unique Flash Git leader
Only two of the unique characters are competitive tactically (Ghazzie and Snikrot), three who are OK, but rather difficult to use and expensive to field (Mad Dok, Wazdakka, Zagstruk) and two who are not very competitive and costly (Badrukk and Old Zogworth).
Realize the we don't have enough unique Warboss? Or any top notch unique character? That right! So thats why I'm gonna use Warlord Nazdreg and try to fit him in the current metagame! So here you go...
Orky Fort's version of the Bad Moon Warboss in 5th Edition :
Warlord Nazdreg in the 3rd edition Codex
Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub 190 points.
WS BS S T W I A L Sv
Nazdreg 5 3 5 5 3 4 4 9 2+
Wargear: Nazdreg has a bosspole, cybork body, mega-armour, stikkbombs and a Kustom Blasta-X (this replaces the normal twin-linked shoota that comes with mega-armour)
Wargear
Kustom Blasta-X:
Nazdreg 'persuaded' a Mekboy to build a powerful special kustom blasta into his mega armour. It is his pride and uses his blasta to blast anything he wishes to. It has the following profile :
Range Str AP Special
Kustom Blasta-X 36" 7 2 Assault 1, Blast, Gets Hot!
Mega Booster
Warlord Nazdreg has a extra boost unit fitted to his suit to ensure he don't miss out any chances for a fight. The Warlord is allowed to re-roll his dice for the distance he moves.
Special Rules:
Independent Character, Furious Charge, Mob Rule, Waaagh!
Kunnin' plans: Warlord Nazdreg is known for his low cunning and sneaky plans. To represent this, one elite or troop mob in Nazdregs army can choose to have the Infiltrate ability or Deep Strike rule. If the option Deep Strike is chosen, it maybe used regardless of whether the scenario normally uses these rules. The mob chosen must be on foot and may not number more then twenty models.
Da Bad moon Warboss
Nazdreg allows one Meganobz or Flash gitz mob to be taken as a troops choice. You can also take more upgrade up to two Ork boyz as 'Ard Boyz.
Nazdreg can get one ammo runt for +5 points

So how do you think? Is his point cost good enough? :)
Wasn't he the guy who had the Tellyporta arrays at Piscina?
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should include that in the rules instead, removing the infiltrate rule and just having the deep striking?I can't remember anywhere in the fluff where he sneaked units about
Also, there's a typo where it says you can 'upgrade 2 ork boyz to 'ard boyz'. It's confusing and to the casual reader sounds like two models, not mobs!
You're right about the Infiltration thingy, I took it from the 3rd edition codex...but it doesn't sound fluffy enough for me. Deep Striking is probably good enough. :P
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, I should rephrase that to 'upgrade 2 ork boyz mob to 'ard boyz' instead! :)
