Update on Warhammer 40k Online : Dark Millenium

*UPDATE* from E3!

There are more information taken from interviews from the game developers, and here are the juicy bits to take note of :

  1. The game engine is based on the Darksiders game engine with modifications.
  2. THQ is working very closely with Games Workshop in regards to the game, so they are not freelancing and going off on their own. Everything is with cooperation and approval from GW. Pretty much anything that gets added into the 40k universe in Dark Millenium will get added to the canon, part of the war, and will receive the blessing of Games Workshop. I sure hope there are interesting characters/new Ork classes made into miniatures (and vice versa)!
  3. The game is confirmed to still be in pre-Alpha and is mentioned to be more action oriented than a 'traditional' MMO, especially with the gun-based/ranged gameplay elements.
  4. Eldars are not shown in the trailer but Joe Madureira, Creative Director of THQ has confirmed in an interview here that the panzee Eldars are indeed going to be in the game. Playable or not, is unconfirmed. But in another interview from the game developers where an interviewer ask about Eldar in the game, they laughs about it and mentioned that "You won't be dissapointed". Madureira also mentioned that the Ultramarines chapter is also in the game (also backed up by the concept art images below). To be specific, you could check out the video time from 0.35 - 0.40 seconds about the information above. :)
I've also included more concept arts from the Game Designers (kotaku) :

The Ork Fighta is probably a playable vehicle in the game...so is a beakie Rhino. I'z hope da Orks can loot their Rhinos/Leman Russes/Predators and make it ourz for da taking! :D

Its official : Warhammer 40,000 : Dark Millenium Online!

Its official...the Warhammer 40k MMOG is given the name of "Warhammer 40,000 : Dark Millenium Online".

The best thing is from the trailers...I dare to say ORKS ARE 100% PLAYABLE RACE! WAAAAGHH!!!
From da trailer, there are sights of Ork camps, Slugga Boyz, Orks on a Trukk, Ork on a Deffkopta...

The official website has already been launched here.

Here's the description from the website :

"On the very edge of the galaxy lies the Sargos Sector. For centuries it was rendered uninhabitable and isolated by volatile Warp Storms. Even now, deep within the sector the very fabric of reality is unraveling. Only the ancient Sentinel Devices hold the Warp at bay.

But the ravages of time and meddling of humanity have weakened the Sentinel Devices-and now, the battle for these ost worlds is at hand. Drawn to the conflict, the great races of the galaxy descend upon the Sargos Sector, seeking to preserve reality-or to tear it asunder.

Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction, in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter."

So we know the current sector we're gonna play in is called Sargos. Hmmm...I hope they do touch a little bit of the DoW sectors, or some sectors in the novels for some interesting cameos and/or NPCs of some popular characters (Warboss Ghazkull,Gorgutz, Commisar Yarrick, Gaunt and his Ghosts, etc).

There is also a fansite here, where the game enthusiasts gather and discuss.

In game (and some out) pictures from the E3 Expo (taken from their Facebook Group):

The logos cool, everythings cool. Vigil games has also revamp their website so you can drop by for more goodies. If you happen to drop by the E3 expo, be sure to find booth 2001 to check out that life-sized Khorne Beserker and Ork Boy.

And there are pictures of Orks already surfaced! The life sized Ork looks cool too. Even though nothing has been said yet, here is what is seen based on the current pictures and trailers of playable classes/races and transports:

Orks - Slugga Boyz/Nobz with Trukks and Deffkoptas as vehicles (hurrah!)
Space Marines (Black Templars only?)- Tactical Marine, Techmarine Priest, can pilot on Titan or just NPC?
Chaos Space Marines - Daemons (may just be NPC...looks like a Nurgle Daemon), Khorne Beserkers with Bikes, Dreadnaughts
    Imperial Guards - Regular troopers

Other races are not sighted yet. I sure hope they have Tyranids and Eldar at least when more information will be revealed later...The Tau, Necrons and others will have to probably wait for the expansion. :P

Btw, the menu does look similar to WoW menu, with the potrait, lifebar/mana on the top left and hotkeys at the bottom.
Here's the trailer of the game at E3 :

I'm already all excited about this one. I've never payed to play any MMORPGs before and this will probably be my first.

    Warhammer 40,000 Online news

Concept art on Vigil Games website (click for bigger view)

For those of you who didn't know, Vigil Games (an in-house sub of THQ games) announced the making of Warhammer 40k MMOG (Massive Multiplayer Online Game) on March 2007 and it will be completed around year 2012. Details are still very vague, but so far only a few information about the world settings and gameplay are revealed, and a screenshot of an Orky camp (made from a Fighta Bomma) is shown on the official website. It's highly likely Orks will be a playable race! Waaaaaghh!!! :D

    THQ Investors Presentation 2009

    Information gathered around the internet:
    • The game will be set in the 41st Millenia, after the Horus Heresy and they promised all 'important' races will be represented (ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS).
    • There will be no non-combat classes in the game. So everybody have to start a fight! Good news for Orks! :)
    • Character looks will be highly customizable with objects like weapons, books, scrolls and chains hanging from their armour. So you can see how big your shoota/choppa iz like when you carry 'em! Sounds darn fun and intimidating.
    • War and battlefields will be a large part of Warhammer 40,000 Online, players are also able to visit cities (of all scales, types and sizes), exotic alien temples, Chaos shrines, deserted battlefields, mysterious ruins, ancient structures, drifting hulks in space, etc... and that they will be populated with all manners of non-playable characters. I'd very like to bring a bunch of boyz to raid all the above and looking for a good fight!
    • Grouping with other players is NOT necessary, though you may need a larger group to fight tougher bosses and PVP. Maybe good for those who like solo.

There will be lots more information revealed later at the E3 2010 expo June 15-17th. Stay tuned and I'll cover all the Orky news that you'll ever need! What are your guesses? I hope they have a Evil Sunz klan...
