So to cut it short, its an expansion focusing on Vehicles. There are other formations as well in the expansion, such as mass infantry and Mass Monstrous Creatures (ouch). Basically it follows exactly the cost of a bunch of units in the codex plus whatever upgrades you want it to carry, and add additional points to make it a 'Spearhead' with some additional abilities. GW recommends us to add up to 500 points of our regular game for this. Dedicated transports count as Heavy Support, so you can't manipulate the rules and bring in too many battlewagons. There are a total of 12 options of spearhead formations, and you can field only one of each. Each Spearhead also counts as ONE unit, so you can see mass Lehman Russes tanks from an IG player.
Here's an example of a spearhead formation :
There are a few interesting Spearhead formations that our Orks can benefit from :
Tank Hunter Spearhead : Good for us since Orks lack of reliable high strength weapons to pop vehicles, other than the Power Klaw or Deffrolla.
Mass Attack Spearhead : A bunch of Gretchins with Strength 7 Krak grenades, can test to regroup and have prefered enemies over Monstrous Creatures is amazingly fun. Don't tell me seeing your grotz take down light/medium vehicles and Carnifexes isn't fun?! You'll bound to see the Monstrous Creature Spearhead when you face Tyranids or Chaos Daemons anyway...And by the way, you can field up to 140 grotz and 14 Runtherders. Superbly cute/funny but deadly tarpit I'd say.
Super Heavy Spearhead : Now you can field your Gargant Stompa out of Apocalypse games! Orks always like their big stuff! Waaaaghhhh!!! :D
I'm sure you guys maybe thinking about other spearheads which are suitable for your army, so just share it out! I hope someone does try the "Angry Grotz Mass Attack Spearhead" though. :P
Its still free stuff, so you got nothing to lose anyway (well, maybe your paycheque for you'll be tempted to get an all grot army :P). So go check it out and try it with your local players now!

I like the look of the Escort one mixed with the Imperial Armour 8 list - a mob of 3 Deff Dreads suported by two mobs of up to 5 kans, allocating the hits to the kans so the Dreads can really tear things up!
"Dedicated transports count as Heavy Support, so you can't manipulate the rules and bring in too many battlewagons."
My reading was that you selected the spearhead (say, Tank Hunters) and if you wanted to put units that are normally only dedicated transports (like the Razorback for Space Marines) it would count as a 'heavy support' choice for missions where the class was important rather than the transports taking a slot (as spearheads are a seperate bit on the FOC).
Oh dang! Come to think of it, I mixed up some points about misreading the wording back then. According to the Spearhead PDF, it reads :
"When selected as part of a spearhead, dedicated
transports count as Heavy Support units instead, and
therefore are selected without a transported unit."
So...does it means you can't take passengers in (unless you're a mechanized assault spearhead)?
